Winter Solstice Festival (冬至)

We eat out most of the time so we really look forward to home-cooked food. My cus prepared a feast to celebrate dongzhi and we had some tang yuans which signify family reunion and harmony.

Mint Museum of Toys

We had our office X'mas lunch at the Mint Museum @ 26 Seah St. This vintage place holds a cool collection of retro toys which is worth a fortune! Apparently this is only 10% of what the owner collects. Hmm...wonder if they come alive at night...

Chinese Pizza

This unique 'chinese pizza' is found at Qun Zhong along Neil Rd. Their xiaolongbaos are still the best in my opinion.

Hatched

Celebrated Winston's birthday at Hatched @ Evans Rd. Its a small cosy joint which serves almost every item with eggs. Like me, the owner must have a passion for eggs, even his t-shirt had a fried egg printed on it!

PappaRich

Tried the newly opened PappaRich along River Valley Rd which is a franchise from Msia. The laksa and ipoh hor fun were quite nice...kinda like Old Town Cafe.
But not sure why they call it Papparich.. maybe cos its owned by some rich tycoon.

Colbar

Celebrated Don's Belated Birthday @ Colbar, Wessex Estate.

The name belies what l was expecting. Instead of a ultra modern sleek bar, it turned out to be a cool old school retro joint which resembles a tuckshop in the 70s. The food is reasonably priced and they serve both western and local dishes.

Thks Winston & SJ for these cute 'mouldable' pressies from Europe

Qing Ming

Qing Ming is a time we pay respect to our Ancestors and we make it a point to meet up annually for this event.

Its a most tiring affair, starting with the buying of offerings & food in the morning, followed by a 'mini amazing race' round the island from a temple in the North, to the CCK cemetery in the West, to a Church in the South, and finally ending off with dinner at a Tze char stall in the East (at the edge of Changi Village).

l was too tired to take note of the stall name and was too busy eating to take any pics. But the food was good and affordable. We had cereal prawns, chilli crabs, onion beef, pork ribs, yam basket, etc and the bill was less than $200 for a table of 10.

Wonder if the younger generation will still continue this tradition cos its a meaningful reminder of our ancestral roots and the fragility of life.

Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant

After blogging abt San Hao (三好) in my last post, l shall now talk abt ' Wan Hao'! My sis & I visited this posh chinese restaurant @ Marriott and tried their ala carte buffet lunch @ $55++ pax. The ambience was good and the food even better. The staff kept changing our plates and even made sure the dishes were paced out nicely so we can enjoy them hot. Such thoughtfulness is seldom seen in restaurants these days.

The most memorable item must be the US Kurobuta pork which simply melts in the mouth! All the other dim sum & side dishes were delicious too, esp the prawns which were fresh & taut. But my main grouse was the roast pork, which tasted like something u could have gotten for $2 a plate at a hawker centre. Nonetheless, l'll still sum up the experience with one word... 'HAO'!
